auto scale instance not launching with IAM role

Problem: Auto-scale EC2 instances are not launching with the AMI role that is assigned to the EC2 instance used to create the launch config that is assigned to the auto-scale group.

1. Create and configure EC2 instance A
2. During create, assign IAM role 123 to instance A
3. Use instance A to create AMI zebra; AMI zebra includes IAM role 123
4. Launch instance B using AMI zebra
5. Confirm instance B has IAM role 123
6. Create launch config launch-B using instance B
7. Assign launch config launch-B to auto-scale group Blue
8. Auto-scale group Blue launches EC2 instance B-clone based on launch config launch-B and AMI zebra

Problem: The EC2 instance B-clone launched by auto-scale group Blue lacks IAM role 123

Not sure if AWS lets you assign a role when you create a launch config. Is that the case here?

Ok. We need to add support for this to the autoscaling UI. Will add this to our list.

I don't think you'll need to add it in the auto scaling UI.

The IAM role is assigned to the launch config. There is no UI selection required.

It looks like you must be missing a parameter when you call the launch-config API.

You just need to include any IAM role that is attached to the instance that is being used to create the launch config.

    No new UI required.

Just map the IAM role attribute from the source instance to the target launch config when you make the API call.
