How do I monitor my EC2 instance?

Enable CloudWatch for the instance.
Create a monitor from the 'monitors' page, and select what you want to monitor.
A new monitor is by default set to send alerts via email. if you want to get your alert another way, pick/update the delivery channels for the monitor.
