Can I use Ylastic to backup running Windows volumes?
Do I need to shut down the instances first in order to do a clean AMI?
If so (that I still need to shutdown) as I suspect, does Ylastic have the ability to shutdown the instances, make an AMI and then start the instance back up?

Hi Steve,
Ylastic does not do the stop or restart of instances. Ylastic only makes the API call requesting the AMI creation. The details are all handled by AWS. When an API call is made to EC2 asking for an AMI, you can specify that you want a reboot as part of the process so that you have a clean AMI. EC2 will then ensure that a reboot is done as part of the process.
