This is not an issue with the task. It is an issue with the instance. AWS does not tell us any more detail about why the instance failed. Are you actually able to manually create an AMI for this instance?

When we try to create an AMI through the API, the AMI is not being created. Try changing the time the task runs. Maybe the issue with the instance is the time when thew back up is made? Also could you give us more detail on the instance itself? region, os? Anything different about this instance?
